Submission

The ICIS 2006 Program Committee invites submissions of completed research papers, research-in-progress papers, conference theme papers, research methods papers, teaching cases and proposals for panels.

Submission Guidelines

General Policies

  • Language. The language of the conference and all submissions is English.

  • Originality. Submissions to ICIS 2006 must not already have been published in a journal or conference proceedings, nor presented at another conference. Further, they must not be currently under consideration for publication or presentation elsewhere.

  • How to Submit. All submissions are to be made via the ICIS 2006 submission system.

  • Template. All submissions must be in Microsoft® Word .DOC format and must use the provided template,  For a copy of the template click here. Files submitted in other word processing formats or which do not use this template will not be considered or reviewed!

  • Deadlines. The deadlines published in the Call for Papers are firm. No submissions will be accepted after the deadline.

  • Length and formatting requirements. The requirements presented below are firm. Any submission that exceeds length limits or deviates from formatting requirements will be rejected without review.

  • Submission limits. To encourage broad participation, the program committee discourages multiple appearances by the same individual on the program. In light of this policy, participants are requested to make no more than three submissions of all types.

  • Commitment to participate in the conference. At least one author of every accepted paper and all members of every accepted panel or debate must register for the conference by October 31, 2006.

Content Guidelines and Review Criteria by Submission Type

General - All Submissions

  • Types. Submissions may take the form of completed research papers, research in progress papers, conference theme papers, research methodology papers, teaching cases and proposals for panels.

Completed, Conference Theme and Research in Progress Research Paper Submissions

  • Genres. The conference welcomes theoretical essays, formal analyses, technical discussions, and reports of quantitative or qualitative empirical research. Completed and Conference Theme research papers should have completed analyses and documentation of results. They should be similar to journal submissions, but shorter.  Research in progress papers typically represent that is incomplete, yet promising.

  • Review Process. Papers will be prescreened for conformity with submission guidelines and for overall appropriateness for the conference. Papers that pass the initial screening processes will be double blind reviewed. The Program Co-Chairs reserve the right to shift a completed research paper submission from one track to another as they deem appropriate.

  • Review Criteria:

    • Interesting/important problem.

    • Clear motivation (why the problem is interesting theoretically or practically).

    • Conceptual development and/or grounding in prior literature.

    • Methodological adequacy (if relevant).

    • Interesting findings.

    • Well structured and clearly written paper.

Research Methods Paper Submissions

  • Genres. The conference welcomes pioneering papers that address some interesting methods research question.  These papers should be innovative and forward-looking, addressing topics of concern to Information Systems now and in the future. It is a way of encouraging IS researchers to think in terms of need for this kind of work in out top journals and top conferences.

  • Review Process. Papers will be prescreened for conformity with submission guidelines and for overall appropriateness for the conference. Papers that pass the initial screening processes will be double blind reviewed.  The Program Co-Chairs reserve the right to shift a research methods paper submission from one track to another as they deem appropriate.

  • Review Criteria:

    • Important problem now and in the future.

    • Clear motivation (why the problem merits attention).

    • Method adequacy.

    • Well structured and clearly written paper.

Teaching Case Submissions

  • Genres. The conference welcomes teaching cases that would be useful to the field as pedagogical materials that students would find exciting and thoughtful.

  • Review Process. Cases will be prescreened for conformity with submission guidelines and for overall appropriateness for the conference. Cases that pass the initial screening processes will be double blind reviewed.

  • Review Criteria:

    • Interesting/important problem.

    • Clear motivation (why the case would be of interest to faculty and students).

    • Conceptual development and/or grounding in prior literature.

    • Methodological adequacy (if relevant).

    • Interesting findings.

    • Well structured and clearly written case.

Panel Proposal Submissions

  • General: Panel sessions bring together researchers with complementary or conflicting perspectives on a research topic or another issue of importance to the IS field.

  • Required Elements of Panel Proposals:

    • A general description of the panel or issues to be discussed or debated.

    • Names and affiliations of all panel or debate participants.

    • A statement that, if accepted, all participants have made a commitment to attend the conference and serve on the panel or debate.

    • A brief description of each participant’s background, including expertise related to the topic and views of the issues.

    • A statement of any controversial issues that will be discussed and the names of those who will take opposing viewpoints (identification of proponents and opponents is required for all debates).

    • A description of the format of interaction among participants and with the audience.

    • References, as appropriate.

  • Review Process:

    • Panel and debate submissions will not be blind reviewed.

    • The program committee reserves the right to modify panel and debate proposals to meet conference participation guidelines and to complement the overall program.

  • Review Criteria:

    • Broad appeal of topic and/or participants.

    • Timeliness, relevance, and/or controversial nature of topic.

    • Potential to generate audience participation.

Formatting and Page Length by Submission Type

General - All Submissions

  • Formatting. All submissions must be in Microsoft® Word .DOC format and must use the provided template,  For a copy of the template click here. Files submitted in other word processing formats or which do not use this template will not be considered or reviewed!

  • Track and Types. When submitting, you must select a  track and when appropriate the type of submission (completed research papers, research-in-progress papers).

  • Number and Order of Authors. After initial submission, authors cannot be added to, or deleted from completed research papers, research-in-progress papers, conference theme papers, research methodology papers and  teaching cases.  Track and Program Chairs may suggest changes in the slate of presenters for panels and debates.

  • Figures. All figures and illustrations must be inserted into your Word .DOC file as either JPG or GIF format (Other formats or embedded graphic objects will not convert to PDF correctly.)

  • Track Changes. If you use “Track changes” be certain to accept all changes and turn track changes “off” before initially uploading your paper to the AIS Review System.

Paper Submissions

  • General:

    • The first page should contain only the title, abstract, and name of the track to which the paper is being submitted should be included in the headers on the even pages..

    • The remaining pages should include the main body of the submission and all references, figures, tables, etc.

  • Anonymized for Blind Review:

    • Author name(s) should not appear in the paper (including the abstract).

    • Eliminate references to your institutions, your sponsors, your unpublished work, and your published work if done in a way that identifies you as author.

    • All author names must be included on the online submission form.

    Delete author and institution information from document properties. To do this in MS Word, click on Tools>>Options, and then click on the Security tab. Under Privacy Options, select "Remove personal information from file properties on save", as shown below:

  • Maximum Length:

    • Completed research papers, 10,000 words including all titles, abstracts, figures, tables, and references.

    • Research in progress papers, 5,000 words including all titles, abstracts, figures, tables, and references.

    • Theme research papers, 10,000 words including all titles, abstracts, figures, tables, and references.

    • Research methods papers, 10,000 words including all titles, abstracts, figures, tables, and references.

Panel Submissions

  • Maximum Length: 1,500 words including all titles, abstracts, figures, tables, and references.

Teaching Case Submissions

  • Maximum Length: 10,000 words including all titles, abstracts, figures, tables, and references.
