The International Conference on Information Systems (ICIS)
invites nominations for the ACM SIGMIS Doctoral Dissertation Award
Competition 2006. We look for outstanding doctoral dissertations around
the globe in the field of information systems that have been completed
in the time period from July 1, 2005, to June 30, 2006. The competition
is sponsored by SIGMIS, the ACM Special Interest Group on MIS.
Nominations should be submitted no earlier than midnight, US EDT, July
16, 2006, and no later than 4:00 PM US EDT, July 30, 2006. Each
department chair or Ph.D. advisor may nominate only ONE dissertation
from their institution. For information on submissions, see below.
The ACM SIGMIS Doctoral Dissertation Competition 2006 is chaired by Dale
Goodhue and Rudy Hirschheim. The judges include participating faculty from the ICIS 2005
doctoral consortium and faculty members from the discipline.

Eligibility
To be eligible for the 2005-2006 competition,
dissertations must have been completed in the time period from July 1,
2005 to June 30, 2006. Authors must have successfully defended their
dissertations and should have received the final approval and all
required sign-offs on their dissertation document by the June 30, 2006
date. The author should be an IS major and the dissertation needs to
address an important issue in the information systems field.
Submission Process
All papers and supporting documents must be received
by 4:00 PM on July 30, 2006. Any documents received after that date
and/or submissions without all of the appropriate documentation will
not be reviewed.
ICIS encourages submissions from all countries. However, all manuscripts
and accompanying information must be submitted in English. The following
information and documentation is required:
A CD-ROM copy of the complete
dissertation. The CD-ROM should be mailed to the following
address, together with a hardcopy of the paper (see 2 below) and the
nomination letter (see 3 below):

not be considered.
An electronic copy of a paper
derived from the dissertation should be sent to Dr. Dale Goodhue using the email address
dgoodhue@terry.uga.edu

The paper should be:
Single-authored (i.e., the paper
must be written by the student);
Absolutely no more than 4,000 words
in length, excluding the title page, tables, graphs, references, and
an abstract of no more than 200 words in length;
Include a cover page that lists the
student’s name, institution, and email address.
The paper should be sent to the above
email account before 4:00 M IS EDT, July 30, 2006. Late arrivals will
not be considered. If you are having problems sending the file, please
contact Dr. Goodhue using the same email address.
A short letter from the student's dissertation
advisor or chairman of the doctoral program, attesting that: the
paper is based on the student's dissertation; the dissertation has met
all requirements for graduation with a doctoral degree and has been
successfully completed during the time period: July 1, 2005 to June
30, 2006; the paper and dissertation are regarded by the dissertation
committee as being representative of the best level of their
department's doctoral work; the paper derived from the dissertation
meets the following criteria: the paper is the work of the student
under the guidance of the thesis supervisor (name); it represents high
research standards, in terms of theory and method; it makes an
original and substantive contribution to the understanding,
development, or use of information systems.
Works under consideration for
publication may be submitted if they otherwise meet the criteria for
selection. Authors will retain full copyright of the submitted papers
and dissertations.
Acknowledgment
Receipt of the package of hardcopy materials via
regular or expedited post will NOT be acknowledged unless you include an
email address to acknowledge receipt.
Reviewing Process
A panel of IS faculty members will review each
submitted paper. Their evaluations will be used to select those papers
that merit more detailed assessment as final candidates for the award.
The dissertations of the finalist candidates will be reviewed by the
Dissertation Award Selection Committee, which will make the final
choice. As this is an award competition, no reviews will be provided.
Announcement of Winners
The winner of the dissertation award competition will
be announced in December 2006 at ICIS in Milwaukee. There will be no
individual notification of the status of any competitor until the
official announcement in December in Milwaukee.
